prescription

Zaltoprofen is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). As a preferential COX-2 inhibitor, it selectively hinders the production of prostaglandin E2— a biologically active compound—specifically at inflammatory sites, leading to a reduction in both pain and inflammation. Additionally, it impedes pain responses induced by bradykinin, an agent that mediates pain and inflammation.

This medication is prescribed to address pain and inflammatory conditions stemming from various disorders such as dental pain, musculoskeletal pain, post-operative pain, lumbar pain, frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, and cervicobrachial syndrome.

Zaltoprofen is contraindicated in patients with the following conditions:

  • Peptic ulcer, with or without rupture in the gastrointestinal tract, due to the potential risk of gastrointestinal bleeding associated with NSAID use.
  • Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, which are forms of inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Blood abnormalities.
  • Cardiovascular disease, as some NSAIDs have been associated with cardiovascular deaths.
