This medication acts as a decongestant, relieving nasal and sinus congestion stemming from colds, allergies, and hay fever. When used ophthalmically, it reduces redness in the eyes. Its mechanism involves constricting blood vessels in the nose.

risk factors

Avoid in patients with angle-closure glaucoma and those who have undergone surgeries exposing the dura mater.

side effects

  • Eye and ENT: Burning, sneezing, nasal cavity discomfort, throat pain, throat tightness, nasal lining damage, impaired sense of smell.
  • Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting.
  • Central Nervous System: Drowsiness, headache, fatigue.

dosage

For adults with nasal congestion:
– Use 0.1% solution.
– Instill into each nostril 2-3 times per day.
– Maximum duration of use: 5 days.

  • Caution is advised for young children, during pregnancy and lactation, and in patients with a history of high blood pressure, cardiovascular abnormalities, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, and difficulty in urination secondary to prostate enlargement.

  • Use this nasal preparation for no longer than 3 to 5 days to avoid rebound congestion.
