  • Blood: Bruising.
  • Metabolic: Weight loss.
  • CNS: Night blindness, tingling, confusion, memory issues, agitation/irritability, depression, insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, fatigue, speech difficulties.
  • Respiratory: Nasal inflammation.
  • Skin: Rash, itching, acne, hair loss, increased sweating, dry skin, hives, abnormal hair growth.
  • Eyes/ENT: Double vision, taste changes.

dosage

For adults, the initial oral dose is 50 mg per day, divided into two doses. After one week, the dosage may be increased to 100 mg per day. Subsequently, the dose may be further increased weekly by increments of up to 100 mg, with the usual maintenance dose ranging between 300 to 500 mg per day.

It is available in tablet and capsule forms to be taken orally, with or without food.

  • Use caution in patients with a history of liver or kidney issues, kidney stones, respiratory conditions, suicidal tendencies, allergies, concurrent medication use, advanced age, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
  • Avoid sudden discontinuation.
  • May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision; refrain from driving or operating machinery.
  • Minimize sun exposure to prevent heatstroke.
  • Risk of acidosis in patients with kidney or respiratory problems, and diarrhea; consult a doctor if symptoms arise.
  • Monitor patients closely for signs of suicidal ideation.
