  • Body as a whole: Abdominal pain, weakness, headache, uneasiness, sensitivity to light, back pain, chest pain, and fever.
  • Gastrointestinal: Loss of appetite, intestinal inflammation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, indigestion, flatulence, stomach inflammation, gum/tongue inflammation, increased appetite, blood in stool, mouth ulceration, and rectal bleeding.
  • Metabolic: Swelling in the extremities, elevated blood sugar, goiter, gout, increased thirst, and weight gain.
  • Central Nervous System: Memory loss, confusion, headache, depersonalization, dizziness, hallucinations, tightness of muscles, sensory loss, tingling, drowsiness, tremor, unsteadiness, anxiety, depression, nervousness, and abnormal thinking.
  • Respiratory: Nosebleed, lung inflammation, asthma, pneumonia, snoring, and voice alteration.

dosage

For adults, the recommended oral dose is 10 mg per day to be taken at bedtime. The maximum allowable dose is 20 mg per day.

how to take

This medication is available in capsule form and can be taken with or without food. It is advisable to refrain from taking it with high-cholesterol-containing foods.

  • Caution is warranted in patients with a history of depression or other mental illness, alcohol or drug abuse, kidney or liver disease, breathing disorders, allergies, those concurrently taking other medications, as well as in the elderly, children, during pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
  • Additionally, this medication may induce dizziness, drowsiness, or changes in vision. Caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery, and getting up slowly from a lying or seated position is advised.
  • Alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication.
  • Furthermore, exposure to sunlight should be minimized to prevent potential sunburn.
