Abacavir Sulfate, Lamivudine, and Zidovudine constitute a fixed-dose combination prescribed for the treatment of AIDS/HIV infection, especially for pregnant women to diminish the risk of mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy. This combination significantly decreases the likelihood of HIV resistance.

  • Most Common : Nausea, vomiting, headache, uneasiness, fatigue, diarrhea, fever, chills, depressive disorders, musculoskeletal pain, rash, throat infections, anxiety.
  • Body : Redistribution/accumulation of body fat.

  • Gastrointestinal : Mouth ulcer, Loss of appetite, abdominal pain, indigestion, darkening of skin
  • Endocrine and Metabolic : Breast enlargement in males, sugar.
  • General : Inflammation of blood cells, weakness.
  • Blood : Anemia, swelling of lymph nodes, decrease in platelets.
  • Liver – Lactic acidosis and hepatic steatosis (fatty liver), elevated bilirubin, elevated transaminases, posttreatment exacerbation of hepatitis B, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

  • Exercise caution in patients with a history of kidney problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, bone marrow depression, muscle disorders, smoking, alcoholism, hepatitis B infection, breathing problems, nerve disorders, obesity, poor immunity, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue, rash, any allergies, those taking other medications, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • This medication may cause dizziness, so it is advised not to drive a car or operate machinery while taking it. It should not be used in children.
  • Importantly, it does not prevent the spread of infection to others; therefore, it is recommended to avoid sexual contact and the sharing of needles or injection supplies.
